Surface Condition:

Murano chandeliers typically display crisp clarity, soft iridescence, and variations characteristic of hand-blown glass. Minor bubbles and organic asymmetries are inherent to authentic Murano production. Gilt-metal elements show natural patina consistent with age, while glass arms and ornaments retain crisp translucence and vibrant color.

OVERVIEW

This magnificent Murano glass chandelier is a centerpiece of L’Enfant Gallery, admired for its extraordinary craftsmanship and luminous presence. Created in the tradition of Venetian glassmaking—an art perfected over nearly a thousand years—the chandelier features hand-blown arms, floral bobeches, trailing vines, and delicate fruits and blossoms fashioned in multicolored glass. Each component was individually shaped, fired, and assembled by Murano artisans, resulting in a sculptural harmony of light, texture, and color.

Each Murano chandelier is a unique handmade piece, and the owner is provided with a certificate of authenticity. This provides solid proof that the chandelier was made in the Venice lagoon according to hundreds of years of traditional craft. Originally hanging in the famed A.V. Ristorante Italiano on New York Avenue, Washington, D.C., the chandelier was acquired by Peter Colasante, a regular patron of the restaurant, after it closed its doors. Its theatrical elegance, shimmering translucence, and unmistakable Venetian character transform the gallery’s staircase into a glowing cascade of glass.

True to Murano tradition, the chandelier is both an artistic achievement and a functional masterpiece—a stunning example of a unique craft that has been refined over centuries.
